SUMMARY:Intro to Woodturning and Lathe Check-Off
DESCRIPTION:This is an introductory class that will begin with a safety ove
 rview and discuss the mechanics of the lathes\, workholding\, preparing tu
 rning blanks\, wood properties\, turning tools and when to use them\, and 
 a general overview of the process before students begin turning. Students 
 will turn a handle for a kitchen tool (selected from the assortment availa
 ble at The Bodgery) using both high speed steel and carbide turning tools.
  Students will be checked off on operating all five of the available wood 
 lathes at the end of class.\n\nClass Fee: $75 ($65 for the class\, $10 for
  the turning kit).\nRefunds available before 3/2.\nMaximum four students p
 er class
.\n\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes\, carbide and HHS tools.
 This class is open to anyone interested in learning to turn as well as Bod
 gery members who would like to be checked off on operating all five of the
  wood lathes. Kids 10 and up ok\, but under 13 must be accompanied by an a
 dult.\n\nIf a student already has turning tools\, please clear them with m
 e before class. If a student already has a turning kit\, please also clear
  it with me before class to make sure there is an appropriate turning blan
 k on hand. Please note that sharpening high speed steel tools and more com
 plex projects (such as bowls\, goblets and hollow forms) will be covered i
 n other classes.\n\nClosed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulle
 d back. No exceptions.\n\nThe class meets in the Woodturning area outside 
 of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are located.\n\nPlease arrive on tim
 e. Non-members\, please arrive at least 5 minutes before class. Our buildi
 ngs are locked 24/7 and you’ll need to be let inside. Students arriving 
 15 minutes or more late will not be refunded and need to reschedule.\n\nCo
