DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Woodturning and Lathe Check-Off\n\nThis is an i
 ntroductory class that will begin with a safety overview and discuss the m
 echanics of the lathes\, work holding\, preparing turning blanks\, wood pr
 operties\, turning tools and when to use them\, and a general overview of 
 the process before students begin turning. Students will turn a handle for
  a kitchen tool (selected from the assortment available at The Bodgery) us
 ing both high speed steel and carbide turning tools. Students will be chec
 ked off on operating all four of the available wood lathes at the end of c
 lass.\n\nClass Fee: $75 ($65 for the class\, $10 for the turning kit)\n\nM
 aximum four students per class.\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes\, carbi
 de and HHS tools.\n\nThis class is open to anyone interested in learning t
 o turn as well as Bodgery members who would like to be checked off on oper
 ating all five of the wood lathes. Kids 10 and up ok\, but under 13 must b
 e accompanied by an adult.\n\nIf a student already has turning tools\, ple
 ase clear them with me before class. If a student already has a turning ki
 t\, please also clear it with me before class to make sure there is an app
 ropriate turning blank on hand. Please note that sharpening high speed ste
 el tools and more complex projects (such as bowls\, goblets and segmented 
 turning) will be covered in future classes.\n\nClosed toe shoes are requir
 ed. Long hair must be pulled back. No exceptions.\nThe class meets in the 
 Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are located
 .\n\nRefunds provided only before or on 8/5 only. Please arrive on time. S
 tudents arriving 15 minutes or more late will not be allowed in class or r
