DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Woodturning and Lathe Check-Off\n\nThis is an i
 ntroductory class that will begin with a safety overview and discuss the m
 echanics of the lathes\, work holding\, preparing turning blanks\, wood pr
 operties\, turning tools and when to use them\, and a general overview of 
 the process before students begin turning. Students will turn a handle for
  a kitchen tool (selected from the assortment available at The Bodgery) us
 ing both high speed steel and carbide turning tools. Students will be chec
 ked off on operating all four of the available wood lathes at the end of c
 lass.\n\nClass time: 6:30 to 9:30 pm\nClass Fee: $75 ($65 for the class\, 
 $10 for the turning kit)\n\nRefund before 11/13.\n\nMaximum four students 
 per class
.\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes\, carbide and HHS tools.\
 n\nThis class is open to anyone interested in learning to turn as well as 
 Bodgery members who would like to be checked off on operating all five of 
 the wood lathes. Kids 10 and up ok\, but under 13 must be accompanied by a
 n adult.\n\nIf a student already has turning tools\, please clear them wit
 h me before class. If a student already has a turning kit\, please also cl
 ear it with me before class to make sure there is an appropriate turning b
 lank on hand. Please note that sharpening high speed steel tools and more 
 complex projects (such as bowls\, goblets and segmented turning) will be c
 overed in other classes.\n\nClosed toe shoes are required. Long hair must 
 be pulled back. No exceptions.\nThe class meets in the Woodturning area ou
 tside of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are located.\n\nPlease arrive 
 on time. Students arriving 15 minutes or more late will not be refunded an
