DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Woodturning and Lathe Check-Off\n\nThis is an i
 ntroductory class that will begin with a safety overview and discuss the m
 echanics of the lathes\, workholding\, preparing turning blanks\, wood pro
 perties\, turning tools and when to use them\, and a general overview of t
 he process before students begin turning. Students will turn a handle for 
 a kitchen tool (selected from the assortment available at The Bodgery) usi
 ng both high speed steel and carbide turning tools. Students will be check
 ed off on operating all five of the available wood lathes at the end of cl
 ass.\n\nMonday\, February 23\, 6:30 to 9:30 pm\nClass Fee: $75 ($65 for th
 e class\, $10 for the turning kit). Refunds available before February 20.

.\nYou’ll be using the wood lath
 es and HHS tools.\n\nThis class is open to anyone interested in learning t
 o turn as well as Bodgery members who would like to be checked off on oper
 ating all five of the wood lathes. Kids 10 and up ok\, but under 13 must b
 e accompanied by an adult.\n\nIf a student already has turning tools\, ple
 ase clear them with me before class. If a student already has a turning ki
 t\, please also clear it with me before class to make sure there is an app
 ropriate turning blank on hand. Please note that sharpening high speed ste
 el tools and more complex projects (such as bowls\, goblets and segmented 
 turning) will be covered in other classes.\n\nClosed toe shoes are require
 d. Long hair must be pulled back. No exceptions.\n\nThe class meets in the
  Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are locate
 d.\n\nPlease arrive on time. Non-members\, please arrive at least 5 minute
 s before class. Our buildings are locked 24/7 and you’ll need to be let 
 inside. Students arriving 15 minutes or more late will not be refunded and
