DESCRIPTION:Log to Bowl — Turning Green Wood\n\nThis class is open to Bod
 gery members and Madison College woodturning students who would like to un
 derstand how to take any “found on ground” green wood and turn it into
  finished bowls\, tool handles and more.\n\nPrerequisite: You must be chec
 ked-off on the lathes and have turned a bowl from dry wood before taking t
 his class.\n\nSaturday\, September 26\, 9:00 am to 4:00 pmMaximum six stud
 ents per classClass Fee: $135 (incl. $5 for lumber).Refunds available befo
 re September 24.(Please read carefully before signing up)\n\nWe will discu
 ss the characteristics of wood that cause it to crack and check and precau
 tions you can take with green logs to prevent cracking &amp\; checking. Yo
 u will cut and prepare a turning blank from a piece of cut green tree trun
 k. We will demonstrate several methods of storing the blank prior to turni
 ng to prevent cracks &amp\; checks. You will then rough turn a green bowl 
 blank and prepare it for long term storage so you can finish turning it in
  the future after the blank has dried.\n\nWe will discuss and practice pre
 ventive maintenance &amp\; clean-up procedures to the lathe\, chucks and t
 ools to prevent rust due to the moisture content of the wood.\n\nThis is a
  full day-long class! We will break briefly for lunch mid-day.Green lumber
  will be provided.\n\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes and HSS tools. If 
 you already have turning tools\, please clear them for use before class be
 gins. Please note that sharpening high speed steel tools is covered in ano
 ther class.\n\nClosed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled bac
 k. No exceptions.\n\nThe class meets in the Woodturning area outside of th
 e Woodshop where the wood lathes are located. Non-members\, please arrive 
 at least 5 minutes before class. Our buildlings are locked 24/7 and you’
 ll need to be let inside.\n\nPlease arrive on time. As this is a day-long 
 class\, refunds will be available 48 hours before the first class only.\n\
