You will c ut and prepare a turning blank from a piece of cut green tree trunk. We wi ll demonstrate several methods of storing the blank prior to turning to pr event cracks &\; checks. You will then have the choice of:\n\n– rough turning a green bowl blank and preparing it for long term storage so you can finish turning it at a future time after the blank has dried.\n– fin al turning a green bowl blank and preparing it for short term drying.\n\nT ime permitting\, you can do both.\n\nWe will discuss and practice preventi ve maintenance &\; clean-up procedures to the lathe\, chucks and tools to prevent rust due to the moisture content of the wood.\n\nThis is a full day-long class! We will break briefly mid-day. Green lumber will be provi ded.\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes and HHS cutting tools.\n\nIf you a lready have turning tools\, please clear them with me before class. Please note that sharpening high speed steel tools is covered in another class.\ n\nClosed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled back. No except ions.\nThe class meets in the Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop whe re the wood lathes are located.\nPlease arrive on time.
