DESCRIPTION:Log to Bowl — Turning Green Wood\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThis class is 
 open to Bodgery members who would like to understand how to take any “fo
 und on ground” green wood and turn it into finished bowls\, tool handles
  and more.\n\nPrerequisite: You must be checked-off on the lathes and have
  turned a bowl from dry wood before taking this class.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSatur
 day\, July 12\, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm\nMaximum four students per class\nClass
  Fee: $135 (incl. $5 for lumber).\nRefunds available before June 10.\n\n(P
 lease read carefully before signing up)\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nWe will discuss the 
 characteristics of wood that cause it to crack and check and precautions y
 ou can take with green logs to prevent cracking &amp\; checking. You will 
 cut and prepare a turning blank from a piece of cut green tree trunk. We w
 ill demonstrate several methods of storing the blank prior to turning to p
 revent cracks &amp\; checks. You will then have the choice of:\n\n- rough 
 turning a green bowl blank and preparing it for long term storage so you c
 an finish turning it at a future time after the blank has dried.\n- final 
 turning a green bowl blank and preparing it for short term drying.\n\nTime
  permitting\, you can do both.\n\nWe will discuss and practice preventive 
 maintenance &amp\; clean-up procedures to the lathe\, chucks and tools to 
 prevent rust due to the moisture content of the wood.\n\nThis is a full da
 y-long class! We will break briefly mid-day. Green lumber will be provided
 .\nYou’ll be using the wood lathes and HHS cutting tools.\n\nIf you alre
 ady have turning tools\, please clear them with me before class. Please no
 te that sharpening high speed steel tools is covered in another class.\n\n
 Closed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled back. No exception
 s.\nThe class meets in the Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop where 
 the wood lathes are located.\nPlease arrive on time. Students arriving 15 
 minutes late or longer will not be refunded and will need to reschedule.\n
