DESCRIPTION: This is the basic metal lathe training. It is required for check-off on the metal lathes (i.e., to get badge access to the lathes in the machining area). We will go over safety, the parts of a lathe, basic turning, facing, and drilling operations, and lathe care/cleanup. This will be a hands-on class, and participants will have opportunities to operate the lathe a bit during the training. Members only (since the lathe is a red tool). Participants are also encouraged to buy a copy of “How to Run a Lathe” ($6 on Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1614274746/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1), which serves as a great reference/manual for our South Bend lathes (there is also a copy available in the machining area).
DATE AND TIME: August 19, 2023, 1-5PM.
COST AND REFUND POLICY: $20 per person. The fee goes 100% back to the machining area. Must cancel by the Wednesday before the class to get a refund. If the fee is a financial obstacle to your participation, DM me on slack.
