Welcome to the woodshop! Whether you’re brand new to woodworking or a seasoned woodworker, we’re looking forward to having you in the shop.
This orientation is required to use the machines in the woodshop. It is an introduction to get members familiar with the woodshop, tools, and policies. Members who complete the orientation will have access to all machines covered in the session.
We will cover safety and woodshop policies (scheduling time in the woodshop, allowed lumber and lumber storage, glue-up/assembly area use, and more).
After the policy discussion and tour of the woodshop, we will go over the principles of safe machine operation. Attendees will be guided through the steps of milling a rough board using the jointer, planer, and table saw. We will also cover the miter saw, drill press, sanding machines (random orbital and stationary sanders), and dust collection. Other tools (routers, bandsaws, mortisers, etc.) will be covered individually or in groups outside of this orientation session.
Please wear appropriate shop attire (no loose/dangling clothing or open-toed shoes, hair should be tied back). We do have some safety glasses and hearing protection but it’s a good idea to bring your own (you’ll want them in the shop!).
You must be a member of the Bodgery to take this class. Non-members will not have access to the woodshop after this class. To become a member of the Bodgery, sign up for a New Member Orientation.
