How to Turn a Wood Bowl (please read carefully before signing up)
ATTENTION! You must be checked-off on the lathes before taking this class!
THIS IS A TWO-PART CLASS.
The second class will be held on the same evening the next week at the same time.
Turning a bowl from a block of wood involves learning a series of turning techniques, including cutting on the bevel vs scraping, safe workholding in a chuck, and understanding wood grain.
In the first class, students will turn a small bowl from 8/4 lumber to learn how to advance through the process—evaluate the wood, cut a tenon to mount the bowl in a chuck, and shape the outside.
The second class will cover techniques for hollowing the interior of the bowl as well as techniques to remove the tenon from the foot of the bowl. Finishing will be discussed in relation to the intended purpose of the bowl, and whether a student opts to turn green or kiln-dried lumber.
Part One (10/22), 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Part Two (10/29), 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Maximum four students per class
Cost: $135
