Want to learn to sew but never had the chance? Been a while and want to brush up? This is the class for you! This will serve as a hand sewing 101 class while also having the outcome of taking a handmade cat or pet toy home with you at the end of the day.
We’ll learn the following stitches: back stitch, running stitch, and ladder stitch. We’ll also cover how to mark out a pattern onto your fabric, how to consider and think about seam allowance, and safety features when making toys for pets.
Materials and equipment (sewing needles, thread, fabric, and stuffing) will be provided by the instructor. Materials are zero waste — the bodies of the cat toys are made from scrap fabric from several sewing stashes, and the stuffing is sheep wool cast offs from spinning yarn!
This is an all ages class, with the caveat that all students should be comfortable using a sewing needle – aka an object that can be sharp and pointy if mishandled.
The class will be held on October 24th from 6PM-7:30PM at the large craft table in the main area of the Bodgery.
The cost is $28 per person, which includes all materials. You will only need to bring yourself. No refunds.
Seats: Minimum 2 people, maximum 8 people.
Instructor is Embry Whitmore (embry.whitmore@gmail.com).
Class will meet in the clean room!
