Woodturning with the Skew
You must be checked-off on the lathes before taking this class.
Many woodturners are unfamiliar with or are not comfortable using the skew for spindle turning. The skew is the original woodturning tool, and can be extremely efficient once mastered. This class will introduce turners to using the skew to turn spindles safely, with proper technique. The possibilities are endless once this skill is learned!
NOTE: The skew and the spindle roughing gouge are NEVER used for turning bowls! Please note that this is not a project-based class, and we will be practicing on scrap wood.
Thursday, November 16, 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Maximum three students per class.
You’ll be using the wood lathes and HSS skew turning tools.
This class is open to Bodgery members interested in advancing their turning skills. Kids 10 and up ok if they are truly interested in woodturning, but under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
If a student already has turning tools, please clear them with me before class—skews must be sharpened before use.
Closed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled back. No exceptions. The class meets in the “Woodturning” part of the Shop where the wood lathes are located.
If necessary, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance since class size is limited by the equipment available. Please arrive on time. Students arriving 15 minutes will not be allowed to take the class.
