How to Turn a Wood Bowl—REQUIRED FOR GREEN WOOD SEMINAR
(Please read carefully before signing up)
You must be checked-off on the lathes before taking this class!
THIS IS A TWO-PART CLASS.
The second class will be held on Wednesday evening next week.
Turning a bowl from a block of wood involves learning a series of turning techniques, including scraping vs cutting on the bevel, safe workholding in a chuck, and understanding wood grain. This class or a completed wood bowl are required before taking the Working With Green Wood seminar about starting with a log and ending with a wood bowl.
In the first class, students will turn a small bowl from kiln-dried 8/4 lumber to learn how to advance through the process—evaluate the wood, cut a tenon to mount the bowl in a chuck and shape the outside.
The second class will cover truing up the outside, hollowing the inside, techniques for shaping the interior of the bowl as well as removing the tenon from the foot of the bowl. Finishing will be discussed in relation to the intended purpose of the bowl, and a brief overview what students will learn in the Working With Green Wood seminar.
Part One Thursday, August 14, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Part Two Wednesday, August 20, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

This class is open to woodturners interested in advancing their turning skills. If a student already has turning tools, please clear them with me before class—gouges should be sharpened before use.
Kids 10 and up ok if they are truly interested in woodturning, but under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
Closed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled back. No exceptions.
The class meets in the Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are located.
Non-members, please arrive at least 5 minutes before class. Our buildlings are locked 24/7 and you’ll need to be let inside. As this is a 2 day class, refunds will be available 48 hours before the first class only. Please arrive on time.
