Pens—How to Turn

You must be checked off on the lathes before taking this class!

Father’s Day is coming up, just sayin’.

Turning a pen is a great way to practice spindle turning techniques and create a finished gift for someone special (or for you!). Turning a pen involves following a process to correctly size and assemble multiple pieces into a finished item. It also involves a new method of workholding called a mandrel in addition to using a chuck. We will also discuss finishing techniques and the process for turning complex projects as well as deciphering project kit instructions.

Tuesday, June 10, 6:30pm to 9:30 pm
$75 ($65 for the class, $10 for the pen kit)
Refunds available by June 8.

Maximum four students per class.
You’ll be using the wood lathes and HSS turning tools

This class is open to anyone who is already checked off on the lathes and is interested in advancing their turning skills. Kids 10 and up ok, but under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

If a student already has turning tools, please clear them with me before class—gouges and skews should be sharpened before use.

Closed toe shoes are required. Long hair must be pulled back. No exceptions.

The class meets in the Woodturning area outside of the Woodshop where the wood lathes are located.

Please arrive on time. Non-members, please arrive at least 5 minutes before class. Our buildings are locked 24/7 and you’ll need to be let inside. Students arriving 15 minutes or more late will not be refunded and need to reschedule.
